Daytona CCS/Formula USA 2003 Final

Great weekend, What a difference a professional tuner/mecanic makes.

Geoff Cesmat, from Erion racing came out to tune for Chris this weekend.

Geoff had to re-build a bike, the left overs from our Alabama tear down, and then set up the other bikes. I really don't know how Chris did as well as he did all year without someone like Geoff.

Our team was described as," a amateur pit crew with a proffessional rider" We took no offence to the statement because it was true. We tried our best and did what we had to do.

We were at the last round of CCS/Formula USA at Daytona this time and Chris was on fire.

To give a brief overview, he bettered his times from last spring in the Formula USA rounds by 4 seconds a lap and better his AMA times by 2 seconds, that's significant considering that was only 7 months ago.
His best time was 1:54.3

The first race he was in was, the Team Challenge, a 200 mile race, we hadn't planned on being in this event but Andrew Nelson ask Chris if he wanted to race his Honda 954 with him, that took about 1 second to say,"YES".

The boys were flying, Nelson started the race and after 18 laps had a 45 second lead, then Chris, after only being on the bike the practice before, got another 40 second lead, by lap 31, unfortunately, the bike stopped with a mechanical. To bad, Chris was about to lap the 2nd place rider by the half way point.

The other races are sprints, 5 laps only. Because Chris had not raced all the CCS events all year, they are gritted by points, that meant, usually a 5th- 8th row start.

The next race was:

Expert GTO:Finals

1. Steve Rapp (Suz GSX-R1000)
2. Marco Martinez (Suz GSX-R1000)
3. Jake Holden (Suz GSX-R1000)
4. David Stanton (Suz GSX-R1000)
5. Robert Jensen (Yam YZF-R1)
6. Chris Peris (Hon CBR600RR)

Followed by:

Expert GTU:

1. Scott Greenwood (Yam YZF-R6)
2. Scott Harwell (Suz GSX-R600)
3. Chris Peris (Hon CBR600RR)
4. Dave Ebben (Suz GSX-R600)
5. Jesse Janisch (Yam YZF-R6)
6. Matt Furtek (Suz GSX-R600)

After the CCS races were the Formula USA races

Chris entered Supersport and Superbike

The races were the most exciting I've seen Chris in all year, although he didn't win, the races were so close, at the start finish line, it was hard to tell who had come in 2nd to 5th

In supersport, Chris was drafted at the line for a 4th place, in a cluster of 5 bikes for a photo finish.

the superbike was the same excitement, with another photo finish and Chris coming ahead of Steve Rapp in 5th place.

Very exciting weekend and hopefully the next Daytona AMA round will be just as exciting.

Chris is off to the Kevin Schwantz school at Road Atlanta and then he has a marathon drive to LAX in California.

That's all for now, were off to Willow for the winter and some more fun then.
