  • Reigning Pro Honda Oils Supersport champion Tommy Hayden continued his dominating ways this afternoon at Road America, scoring his fourth pole position of the season aboard his works Kawasaki ZX-6RR.

The Kentuckian boasted a massive 1.3-second advantage over second place following the conclusion of qualifying -- a rare feat in the typically ultra-close Supersport class -- thanks to a smoking 2:19.273 lap."That session went pretty well", Hayden said after qualifying. "I felt pretty good going in. We made a few changes to it this morning and my bike was actually a lot better at that time. We had a little chatter this morning and we got that a little bit better so I was more comfortable out there. My lap was mistake free; I don't like to say a perfect lap because I don't really believe there is such a thing, but it was about as close to it as I can get. My bike is a rocketship and that doesn't hurt anything.""The race is always different. I'm sure that there will be some guys that will be able to hang in the draft -- maybe some guys that didn't even qualify so well." Superstock polesitter Jason DiSalvo posted a 2:20.580 during his final lap of the session aboard his Yamaha USA R6 to climb up to second on the grid. The aggressive young ace is still looking for his first Supersport win of '05 and hoping to fight his way back into title contention. Second factory Yamaha runner Aaron Gobert ended up third -- a fine showing for the Aussie who had been struggling for much of the '05 season. Gobert's best lap of the session was a 2:20.741.Roger Hayden qualified his ZX-6RR on the outside of Row 1, the official Kawasakis sandwiching the works Yamahas on the front row. Yoshimura Suzuki's Ben Spies will head the second row. He'll be joined by Topline Printing's impressive Chris Peris, Team M4 EMGO Suzuki's Geoff May, and MPTRacing.com's Danny Eslick. The third row will feature Attack Kawasaki's Ben Attard, third Yamaha USA pilot Damon Buckmaster, KneeDraggers.com's Robert Jensen, and local star Jason Farrell.
